#ScienceIsWonderful is a competition held by European Commission giving the opportunity to #MarieSkłodowskaCurieActions researchers and teachers to team up and co-create proposals for learning materials in their respective fields. The proposals should include activities with real-life applications and explain research projects in an intuitive and interactive way for the classroom, helping to create new learning material for students!
Two SURFICE – MSC-ITN researchers, Anny Catalina Ospina Patiño (Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, Italy) and Navid Mostofi Sarkari (KU Leuven, Belgium), in collaboration with researcher Viviana Ospina (Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale, Italy) and teacher Nina Zupanc (Osnovna šola Sostro, Slovenia) participated in this competition with a proposal entitled “IS THAT A SOLID OR A LIQUID?” with a focus on the viscoelastic behavior of polymers.
“It is well known that pure substances exist as three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. We invite you re-visit this traditional classification, which is often too simplistic in the materials science world. Materials can be hard, soft, stretchable, they can flow and bounce. We can tune these properties to make them functional to our needs by modifying their composition, arrangement, and interaction among large molecules (polymers), this determines whether a material behaves like a solid, a liquid, or even like both at the same time.”
The event is open to everyone and you can find more information in the oficial website
